Branding and Logo Design is quite possibly my favorite thing to do. The satisfaction of taking a person or company's vision or direction and turning it into something real, something that defines and motivates them, is truly rewarding. No two are the same and every single one presents new and unique challenges. These are some of my favorites.

Websites and Mobile Digital Content has taken over print as the medium of choice for businesses, large and small, looking to market to their target consumers where they live and work, online and in the palm of their hand. These are some examples of dynamic sites that look great on desktop, tablet and mobile. Various software and CMS packages have been used including WordPress, Drupal, Dreamweaver, Muse, iWeb, Mobirise, Wix and Squarespace. Click any site to visit and review.

Having spent 15 years in the Music Business developing artist album packages was a special treat. Working directly with artists and their management teams and labels to make the musical vision come to life is an experience I hope every Creative Director or Designer has a chance to experience. From directing photo shoots to identifying images to use for the release to writing copy and liner notes and the layout of the CD package, these examples are representative of amazing partnerships and creativity.

Music POP and Advertising Working with the major labels and mass merchant retailers provided opportunities to create dynamic point of purchase and print marketing.

The Handleman Company Annual Report was a necessary and expensive annual production typically outsourced to a Detroit area agency. After analyzing the resources and time commitment necessary to produce the project I advocated for doing it in-house. This decision saved the Company over $100,000 and cut the production time in half. The 2001 annual report was the first one produced all in-house and featured all Handleman Company Employees. The theme was "The Indispensable Link to Entertainment" and featured a custom, hand-made acrylic DNA strand comprised of film strips and sheet music, representing the two segments of business at Handleman. The cover image, as well as all interior photos were my visions and were staged, directed, lit and choreographed in Handleman's offices. For me it was the ultimate showcase of our talented people, advanced systems and our position as a leader in the entertainment distribution industry.

The 2012 Automation Alley Awards Gala was in need of refreshing. The theme of the show was "technology growth." Numerous concepts were developed but this "gear tree" was the overwhelming choice by the client. All the material for the campaign was developed and produced including posters, invitations, sponsorship brochures, programs, onsite signing and branding and save the date postcards. The campaign won a MarCom Gold award for excellence in marketing and communications.

The Christ Church Antiques, Garden & Design Show is the premier event at the church and the 2016 show was to be the 32nd and final one. The entire brand of the show was redeveloped and modernized. I partnered with one of the show's antique dealers to shoot images in his store for use in the campaign. The image of the boy in the hat was to be the centerpiece of the 2016 show branding. The campaign took two months to develop and produce and included posters, outdoor banners, banner stands, newspaper and magazine ads, email blasts, website, invitations, tickets and all on-site directional signing and programs.

eScapes Television in Monroe was developed as "television you don't want to turn off." The concept was akin to Muzak for the eyes and the target audience was doctor and patient waiting rooms, affluent consumers, restaurants and other high end onsite businesses. I was brought in to create the eScapes rollout material. The campaign included promotional buttons, brochures, calendars and commercial DVD packages.

Bad Frog Beer took Michigan by storm in the 90s and led a charge of independent micro breweries across the country. Bad Frog was "Attitude Beer" that you ordered by flipping the bird to your server or bartender. Developed from a t-shirt design from a sketch on a bar napkin, the demand for the nonexistent beer became so great the Company relented and introduced Bad Frog Amber Lager, contract brewed at Frankenmuth Brewery. Before long the beer was winning awards for taste and quality and was selling in 13 states. The highlight of Bad Frog's foray into popular culture was defending its surly mascot in court cases against accusations of obscenity in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio. No such thing as bad press people. This Bird's for you!

Retouching An art form in itself, taking an image and making it usable, making it better, making it marketable. Sometimes you only have one image, sometimes the client insists on using a particular shot, sometimes it's the best shot and it has flaws. Whatever the case, Photoshop wizardry comes in very, very handy. In the shot below for Greektown Casino, this was the best image of the 3 executives and the only one where they all had their eyes open. But the antennae on the left was distracting and the tie of the man on the left flipped in the wind. Overall the color was washed out and too Cyan in the bright sun as well.

Hearthside Grove For this magazine cover shot we took hundreds of shots. This was the image that client selected for the cover. Problem was there was a groundsperson in a golf cart in the shot right where we intended to set the logo and cover copy. Also the sky had become overcast during the shoot.
Retouching

LA Prep Client wanted to use a gearshifter as centerpiece for their marketing folder. This shot was taken of a Lexus gearshifter and adapted to incorporate the LA Prep logo while also editing out the seat warmer switch to focus attention on the logo.

St. Joseph Regional Medical Center We needed a beauty shot of the facility to use in the Annual Report. Client really liked this view but the sky and field in front of the building were not ideal.
Retouching

St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Another photo for the annual report. Unfortunately they ran the sprinklers the day we shot our photos. The water seeping into the driveway was very distracting and made the driveway look deformed or damaged. Additionally the cars on the left side cut into the shot and created a distraction from the building facade.
Retouching

Tracey Lawrence Promo shot and image to be used in Tracey's "For The Love" album was poorly lit on the left and the striped background on the right aligned too perfectly to his cuff. Facial features were enhanced.

Tracey Lawrence Another image from the "For The Love" shoot. We loved this shot but his shirt hung down behind him in such a way that it made the shot look sloppy and informal. Digitally tucking the shirt in created a slimming effect and made the shot look much classier. Facial features were lightened as well.
